Prof. Arnab Majumdar

Dr. Arnab Majumdar, esteemed Professor of Transport Risk and Safety, heads the Lloyds Register Foundation Transport Risk Management Centre at Imperial College London's Centre for Transport Studies. Additionally, as Deputy Director (External Partnerships) of the ESRC LISS DTP, he collaborates with prestigious London universities. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, Dr. Majumdar also lends his expertise to Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China and Taipei Medical University in Taiwan.

After obtaining his PhD in Airspace Capacity Estimation in Europe at Imperial College in 2003, Dr. Majumdar further expanded his academic credentials with MSc degrees in Transport and Cognitive Neuropsychology. His research, spanning over two decades, delves deep into transport risk and safety, with a keen interest in air traffic management and the intricate problems of air traffic control worldwide. His work often focuses on the human elements such as Air Traffic Controller workload, complexity, and fatigue.

In recent years, Dr. Majumdar's research has pivoted towards understanding human and social behavior in life-threatening situations like violent attacks and fires, utilizing advanced techniques such as virtual reality and wearable tech. With a prolific output of over 100 journal articles, 120 conference papers, and three book chapters, Dr. Majumdar is a recognized voice in international aviation research. His academic contributions have earned him several awards, including a Best Paper award in Airspace Management and a Silver Award for The Aeronautical Journal.

Collaborating extensively with public and

private entities like Public Health England and easyJet, and international counterparts such as Transport Canada, Dr. Majumdar's research is globally acknowledged. At the helm of a dynamic research team, he oversees a diverse array of projects on human and social factors in risk safety, heavily funded by bodies like the Lloyds Register Foundation, UKRI, and the European Union, and has been a mentor to 20 PhD graduates.
